Strong winds and heavy rain have been forecast for the bank holiday weekend, but the good news is that Ireland will avoid the ‘St. Jude Day Storm’ which is currently heading for the UK.

If you’re planning on doing something outdoors for the bank holiday weekend you might want to rethink your plans. Speaking about the weather forecast for this coming Monday, Met Éireann said: “There is the potential for some very wet and windy weather on Bank-Holiday Monday.”

Tonight should stay fairly dry, but a band of heavy rain will push into the west coast during the morning. This rain will slowly move it’s way across to the east coast by the early evening and showers will continue to affect western and northern coastal counties on Saturday night.

As for Sunday, Met Éireann says it will be a windy day with more heavy showers at first in the west of the country, but they will spread further to the east during the day.

Met Office forecasters over in the UK are warning of a strong weather front that has been called the ‘St. Jude Day Storm’ (St. Jude is the Patron Saint of lost causes, and his feast day is this Monday). It is set to hit the UK on Monday bringing with it high winds of up to 120kph along with 30mm of rain.

Thankfully, the storm is set to bypass Ireland, but we will get the tail end of it, so expect a wet and blustery bank holiday Monday.
