This is a fantastic initiative that will help undergraduates develop and raise vital funds for one of Ireland’s worthiest causes.

One of the biggest barriers undergraduates face as they leave college to enter the workplace is a lack of experience and having few tangible ways of showcasing their skills beyond a few empty words on a CV.

That is what makes the 100minds idea so bloody brilliant. Created by Declan Egan, the idea is that 100 of Ireland’s best and brightest undergraduates would promise to raise €1,000 for charity. How they do that is up to them and the idea is they would use their creative ways to raise the money, demonstrating their ability to manage a project, run an event, design a marketing campaign, sell a publication; whatever it is, it will then be a real-life example of what they are capable of to a future employer.

So that’s what the undergrad gets out of it while Temple Street Children’s Hospital should, all going well, end up with €100,000 of extra, much-needed, funding.

With backing from big name graduate recruiters like KPMG, PWC, Deloitte, Google, Microsoft and LinkedIn, it really is a great thing to get involved in and could be a first step to a career, with the bonus of helping a great charity.
