A video of the assault has been shared widely on messaging apps.

Gardaí in Cavan are investigating the appearance of a video that is currently circulating on social media messaging apps.

Three males and one female have been arrested, all of whom are in their 20s, on suspicion of an offence under Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.

All three have been detained at Garda Stations in the northeast of Ireland.

A 19-year-old man is currently being treated at a hospital, also in the northeast, following the assault.

A 25-year-old man was charged on Tuesday evening and will appear before Monaghan District Court on Wednesday morning.

The other two people arrested have been released and a file will be submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardaí have urged people not to share the video in question and have also encouraged any members of the public who view such offending material to refer to their local Garda station.
