The clocks go forward this weekend, here’s what you need to know

Stephen Porzio

Daylight savings…

It’s that time of the year when time will once again change.

Yet, despite the fact that the clocks go forward and back every year, people do tend to find the whole daylight saving practice confusing.

This is the advancing of clocks during summer months so that darkness falls at a later time.

As part of this, clocks are set forward by one hour in the spring, before being set back by one hour in autumn to return them to standard time.

This means there is one 23-hour day in spring and one 25-hour day in autumn.

What you need to know this weekend

Sadly, the change taking place this weekend is not the one that leaves people with an extra hour of sleep.

The clocks will be going forward by one hour this weekend, meaning we will all have one less hour in bed or the pub.

This will occur at 1am on Sunday, 27 March.

You probably don’t have to worry about updating the time on your smartphone as the vast majority will do so automatically.

But just to be sure, you can go to: Settings > Time & Date> and make sure the automatic date and time feature is enabled.

Meanwhile, older analogue clocks will need changing manually.

Getting one hour less in bed isn’t all bad, however, as it means there will genuinely be a grand stretch in the evenings.

The clocks will go back an hour at 2am on Sunday, 30 October.
