The MMA fighter was found liable for assault by an Irish jury in a civil case last November.
Conor McGregor has been accused of raping a woman in the VIP bathrooms of an arena in Miami, Florida in 2023.
The woman – described as a 49-year-old who works on Wall Street – had originally reported the incident in 2023, but authorities declined to bring criminal charges in the matter.
She now accuses McGregor of a sexual assault which she claims took place at the Kaseya Center in June, 2023, after Miami Heat’s NBA Finals game against Denver Nuggets.
According to The Guardian, the criminal sexual assault lawsuit was filed on Tuesday and alleges that the 36-year-old fighter took the plaintiff to a VIP men’s bathroom before launching his attack.
She claims security staff at the venue stopped her friend from entering the bathroom stall where she and McGregor were.
The plaintiff also alleges that McGregor was intoxicated and “out of control” at the time he allegedly tried to force her to perform a sex act on him “without her consent”.
When she resisted his advances, she claims that the Crumlin native manoeuvred her into an “arm lock”and shoved her against a wall before allegedly attempting to rape her.
The plaintiff claims she suffered “physical, psychological and emotional damages” as a result of the traumatic event.
The woman’s attorney released a statement to Forbes after the lawsuit was filed in the Southern District of Florida.
It read: “My client has thought long and hard about the decision to pursue this civil case, and is fearful of the effect it may have on her job on Wall Street.
“Nonetheless, her main goal in filing this suit is to raise awareness and encourage others to report sexual assault.”
Barbara Llanes, McGregor’s attorney, told Forbes that prosecutors concluded in 2023 there was “no case to pursue,” saying the plaintiff has a “new false story,” while suggesting the case will likely be dismissed.
The plaintiff has also filed a lawsuit against staff and security at the Kaseya Center, accusing them of gross negligence.
