Considerable reward offered to find thug who burned a dog in a chemical attack in Cork

Conor Heneghan

This sounds absolutely horrific.

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is offering a reward of up to €2,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for dousing a dog in chemicals whilst he was lying out in the family garden and then jabbing him with a weapon through the garden fence, piercing holes in his back.

The barbaric attack happened in Cobh on Friday, 12 August, and left the dog with severe, disfiguring burns and gaping wounds. This the second reported chemical attack against a dog in County Cork in recent weeks.

Commenting on such a brutal attack against an animal, PETA Foundation Director Elisa Allen said: “It’s imperative that any community faced with a cruel and callous act such as this take measures to find the culprit and bring him or her to justice.

“Animal abusers are a danger to everyone – they take their issues out on whoever is available to them, human or non-human – and must be caught before they act again.”

Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to contact the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
