45 further Covid-19 deaths confirmed, 575 new cases

The latest Covid figures have been released.

45 further Covid-19 deaths have been confirmed, as well as 575 new cases.

41 of these deaths occurred in February, while four were in January.

There has now been a total of 4,181 Covid-related deaths in Ireland, while 216,300 people have tested positive for the virus.

Of the cases notified today, 68% are under 45 years of age and the median age is 32 years old.

As of 8am today, 693 Covid-19 patients are hospitalised, of which 150 are in ICU. There have been 37 additional hospitalisations in the past 24 hours.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Northern Ireland Department of Health reported that a further 225 individuals have tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

Sadly, a further five deaths have also been reported up north.

Tuesday also saw the first confirmed cases of the Covid-19 variant first detected in South Africa recorded in Northern Ireland.

It is to be announced on Tuesday evening that Level 5 restrictions are due to remain in place until 5 April at least.
