Retailers are being advised to be on the lookout for potential fraudulent behaviour.

Gardaí have issued an appeal regarding credit card fraud in North County Dublin.

Following a recent increase in credit card related fraud at retail premises in Dublin, Gardaí are appealing to retailers to make their staff aware of potential fraudulent behaviour.

They have said that over the past number of days, in the Balbriggan area alone, there has been five incidents of credit card related fraud reported to Gardaí.

These incidents involve customers using cards with either just card details and no card present, or a card has been present but has passed its expiry date.

In some cases these individuals have used these cards for cashback.

As the busy shopping period approaches Gardaí are advising retailers to be extra vigilant with regards to suspicious credit card use, particularly if an individual attempts to use a number of failing cards or card details one after another for cashback.

Gardaí are currently examining CCTV in relation to these reported incidents, and that investigations are ongoing.
