An interesting line during a very passionate speech from the Kerry native.

Farmers around the country are joining the ‘Beef Plan Movement’, a grassroots initiative aimed at securing better prices at meat processing factories.

17,000 farmers have joined the movement, saying that they’re struggling to get by due to prices from the factories dropping significantly.

Those involved hope that 40,000 farmers will eventually join the movement.

Meetings to support the initiative are being held across the country, with one of these recently taking place in Castleisland Co-op Livestock Mart in Kerry, where Independent TD Danny Healy-Rae gave a speech to the assembled crowd.

During the speech, Healy-Rae, who recently attracted criticism for saying that people who don’t eat meat have never worked hard, bemoaned The Paris Agreement on climate change, and the many regulations and hoops farmers are forced to jump through to get their EU funding.

At one stage in the speech, approximately 5:15 into the video above where you can see it in its entirety, he delievered the following line to much laughter from the assembled audience.

“The way they are going at the minute they don’t want us to drink a pint, or eat a bit of meat and it’s sad to think they’ll have us going around on bicycles and yet the big fellas are flying around in the sky pissing on the whole lot of us,” Healy-Rae said.

According to Agriland, the Beef Plan Movement has secured its first official meeting with officials from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, which will take place in Kildare next week.
