The remains were discovered on Saturday afternoon.
26-year-old Mayo man David Gavin went missing over nine months ago in the British Columbia district of Canada.
Gavin had been living and working in Canada, and went diving with friends in Beaver Creek on Friday 30 June 2017, and panic ensued when he failed to surface.
Months of searching for his body followed, with a GoFundMe support page set up and people donating thousands of euros to help his family and raise funds to support the search.
On Saturday afternoon local time (the early hours of Sunday morning here), The Vancouver Irish Sporting & Social GAA Club, who had set up the GoFundMe page, made the announcement that his remains had been discovered.
The following statement was made on the the ISSC Vancouver Facebook page:
“We at the ISSC Vancouver, and on behalf of the extended GAA community in Vancouver, are relieved to announce that the remains of David Gavin were found this afternoon in Kinbasket Lake. Water levels had reduced greatly in recent weeks to allow a search to be resumed.
“David’s family and that of his girlfriend Ciara were present at the lake today. They wish to thank everyone for their continued support.
“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”
