The Accounting & Finance Society in DCU has been suspended.

DCU’s A&F Society has been suspended following misconduct at its EGM.

The incidents which led to its suspension took place on Thursday 4 October.

Clubs & Societies deemed A&F’s actions to go against DCU’s respect and dignity policy.

According to DCU’s newspaper The College View, first-year students who attended the EGM were forced to complete a series of tasks in order to decide who was going to be the society’s first-year representative.

One of the tasks involved placing a balloon between two people’s hips, with the last couple to pop the balloon eliminated from the running.

The students who advanced to the next round were split into two groups: people in a relationship and people who were single.

Students who wanted to get to the next round had to ‘shift’ someone else in attendance.

One student told The College View that people looked like they didn’t want to do it, but did so due to the incentive of a Mystery Ball ticket worth €160.

Students in relationships were told to make phone calls to their partners, with some of them being dared to break up with their partner on the phone to stay in the running.

One student fell off a table while stripping down to his underwear, and went on to remove another student’s top.

The A&F society has since been suspended from all social activities for the remainder of the semester.

A statement released on the society’s Facebook page read:

“To all A&F members,

“Due to the misconduct at our EGM on Thursday 4th of October, A&F has been suspended from social activity for semester one of this year, which includes the A&F European Mystery Tour. Because of this, ticket sales, scheduled for the 17th October, have been postponed.

“A&F will ensure that this does not happen again and would like to take this opportunity to apologise to any member who was offended by last weeks EGM.

“We will continue to run accounting grinds, networking sessions and other non-social activities during semester one.

“If anyone has any queries, please send us a message through our FB page!

“Regards, The A&F Committee x”

A&F is one of the biggest societies in the college, with hundreds of students joining every year.
