Dept of Foreign Affairs confirm one Irish born citizen killed on downed Flight MH17

Foreign Affairs minister Charlie Flanagan announced the sad news this afternoon.

A woman, understood to be a Dublin native resident in Australia, is among those killed in the Malaysian Airline disaster that happened in Ukraine yesterday.

Two hundred and ninety eight people were killed when the airliner was shot down in eastern Ukraine, near the Russian border.

So far 189 Dutch, 44 Malaysian, 27 Australian and 12 Indonesian citizens have been confirmed among the dead, as well as one American who held dual citizenship in the U.S. and the Netherlands.

Minister Flanagan has spoken to the family and offered his condolences.
