Donald Trump blames Democrats for deaths of migrant children at US border

“Any deaths of children or others at the border are strictly the fault of the Democrats and their pathetic immigration policies.”

Donald Trump has responded to the deaths of two children who passed away while in US custody in December, taking aim at his opposition rivals in the process.

Two migrant children from Guatemala – eight-year-old Felipe Gomez Alonzo and seven-year-old Jakelin Caal – died in the last several weeks.

On Saturday evening, the US President addressed those deaths – without directly naming the children – while simultaneously launching an attack on his Democratic opposition.

Taking to Twitter, Trump said:

“Any deaths of children or others at the border are strictly the fault of the Democrats and their pathetic immigration policies that allow people to make the long trek thinking they can enter our country illegally.

“They can’t. If we had a wall, they wouldn’t even try. The two children in question were very sick before they were given over to Border Patrol.

“The father of the young girl said it was not their fault, he hadn’t given her water in days. Border Patrol needs the wall and it will all end. They are working so hard and getting so little credit.”

In a follow-up missive, Trump focused on his much-vaunted wall project – a major promise of his election campaign that has yet to be delivered – throwing in some block capitals for effect.

“For those that naively ask why didn’t the Republicans get approval to build the wall over the last year, it is because in the Senate we need 10 Democrat votes and they give us none for Border Security,” he contested.

“Now we have to do it the hard way, with a shutdown. Too bad.”

Meanwhile, two-year-old Abdullah Hassan passed away from a rare brain condition in a California hospital on Friday night.

His death comes a week after his Yemeni mother Shaima Swileh, previously kept out of America due to the Trump administration’s 2017 travel ban, finally got to see him.
