After Donald Trump's resounding defeat in the first Presidential debate against Hillary Clinton, the Indiana Governor clawed back some respect for the Republican ticket by handily overcoming Tim Kaine in the Vice Presidential debate.
Pence did so well, in fact, that many were touting him as the prospective Presidential nominee for the Republican party four years from now.
With all of that in mind, you can only imagine the look on Pence's face when he heard Donald Trump's voice on TV, saying things about women like "You can do what you want to them. Grab them by the pussy" and realising that it's his job to act like that's not immensely damaging to the Trump campaign.
It would take an unusual sort of politician not to criticise these remarks, but as his Vice Presidential pick, Pence has a duty to protect the man on the top of the ticket. His statement, released this afternoon, reflects the unfortunate plate-spinning act that the devout Christian has to perform in the wake of Trump's lascivious and sexually aggressive remarks.
Posting on his Twitter, Pence wrote "As a husband and father, I was offended by the words and actions described by Donald Trump in the eleven-year-old video released yesterday."
"I do not condone his remarks and cannot defend them."
"We pray for his family and look forward to the opportunity he has to show what is in his heart when he goes before the nation tomorrow night."

Tomorrow night will see Trump face off with Clinton for a second time in a town-hall style Presidential debate.
