A new study has shown that Ireland ranks third in the world for long commutes.

Irish commuters spend over nine days a year travelling to and from work, a study has found.

New research from Autotrader has shown that Ireland ranks third in the world for long commutes, with people spending an average of 9 days, 14 hours and 10 minutes on the roads every year travelling to and from work.

This is well above the global average of 8 days 5 hours and 53 minutes a year.

17 countries were analysed as part of the study, and only India and South Africa were found to have longer commutes than Ireland.

Nearly 85% of people surveyed dubbed traffic as the worst part of commuting, with 70% complaining about other people's driving.

CEO of Autotrader, Nathan Coe, commented: “For millions of commuters around the world the daily drive to work is a defining part of their working day and new global research from automotive marketplace Autotrader reveals just how much time drivers spend commuting each year and how they really feel about it.”
