A statement was released on Saturday morning offering an update about the shopping centre.

It has been confirmed that Douglas Village Shopping Centre will remain closed until at least the summer of 2020, following the damage caused by a recent fire.

In a statement released on Saturday, the shopping centre thanked people for their support and patience, and offered an update regarding when the shopping centre will be back open, as well as offering information regarding demolition plans.

It read: “The current advice we have is that it may be Summer 2020 before the Centre will be rebuilt and ready to reopen. The extent of the rebuild will depend on the amount of time of the demolition. More on the rebuild time frame will be known once demolition is complete.”

It also offered an update regarding the cars that were left trapped in the car park, saying: “We have 137 cars safely removed with a further 10 due to come out this weekend. This will leave 49 on site, the vast majority of which are fully destroyed.

“This includes three cars on the top floor that it might be possible to recover during the demolition process.”
