If you think the laws on drug possession in Ireland need to be reformed, here’s how you can make a change

Drug laws Ireland

The Department of Health wants to hear your thoughts.

In an attempt to examine alternative approaches for the possession of illegal drugs for personal use, The Department of Health is giving the public a voice.

A Working Group was established under the national drug strategy, ‘Reducing Harm, Supporting Recovery’, and they have been asked to make recommendations to the Ministers for Health and Justice and Equality.

To help inform their deliberations, the Working Group wants to hear from you on the effectiveness of the current laws and on what alternatives could be considered.

This has led to a survey being put to the public regarding drug laws in the country, specifically with regard to the possession of illegal drugs.

The survey includes questions such as “Do you agree with the current approach that can prosecute people before the courts if they are found to possess illegal drugs for personal use?” and “Are you in favour of removing criminal penalties for possessing illegal drugs for personal use?”

If you are keen on changing the drug laws in this country, or content with how they are and what to make your opinion heard, you can take the survey here.

If you do want to take the survey, you only have 10 days to do so (the closing date is 30 June), so you better act fast.

It should only take you 10 minutes, and could go a long way.
