Dublin Fire Brigade issue graphic warning about the dangers of fires caused by the sun in warm weather

Enjoy the fine weather while it lasts, but be careful out there.

Ireland is in the midst of a quite glorious heatwave this week, with today, Thursday, marking the hottest day of the year so far, with temperatures of up to 25 degrees in places.

Glorious and welcome though the weather undoubtedly is, weather like this comes with a few health warnings.

The obvious one – one which is repeatedly ignored in these parts – is to apply sunscreen to protect yourself from sunburn, but the Dublin Fire Brigade sought to warn people about a danger that might seem a little less obvious this afternoon.

Seeking to raise awareness of how the sun can cause fires, Dublin Fire Brigade posted a video on Twitter of the aftermath of a fire most likely caused by the sun reflecting off a mirror located in a room of a house.

The damage, as you’ll see below, is quite substantial.

We don’t get weather like this very often, but when we do, be sure to take the necessary precautions.
