Big plans…

The new Dublin Metro will run from Swords to Sandyford and will pass through St Stephen’s Green.

A map of the new Metro seen by The Irish Times shows the train will travel right through the centre of the city.

The Dublin Metro will travel underground for the majority of the route, stopping at a large number of stations including St Stephen’s Green, O’Connell Street, and the Mater Hospital, with elevated tracks for DCU, Ballymun, Dardistown and Northwood.

As well as the existing Luas stop, a new underground stop will also be added at St Stephen’s Green.

Original plans suggested that Metro would stop in Drumcondra but those plans appear to have been put to one side with Phibsborough now the preferred stop.

Although, all of these stops and plans are a long way into the future as it’s expected to take 10 years to finish at a cost of €3 billion.

Below are the planned stops, with the ones in bold planned to be underground.
