Don’t get caught out.

A recent post in the Facebook page Killester Residents Forum has warned of a scam that targets the elderly and “vulnerable”.

The scam consists of a fake letter which reads as if it is from the delivery company UPS which reads: “UPS parcel left in your black bin”.

It appears that it is designed to see if anybody is in the house, and if so, they may be checking to see whether anyone comes out so they can sneak in.

The post also claims that “they tend to pick on older folk who are more vulnerable”.

You can read the warning in full below:

“WARNING: KILLESTER and surrounding areas.

“My close friends mum got this in through her door yesterday. It was a parcel delivery docket and on the back written by hand “…..UPS parcel left in your black bin’… no parcel in the bin of course. Turns out it’s a hoax designed to see if anyone is in the house and if so, they may be watching to see if anyone comes out to check the bin while they sneak in to raid the house.

“Apparently they tend to pick on older folk who are more vulnerable.

“The police have been notified and are aware. Please, please share and if this has happened to anyone you know please report to the Garda. If you could also comment on the area you may know it happened in.”
