Dublin is set to get two new Educate Together schools

Carl Kinsella

Educate Together has been awarded the patronage of two new primary schools to be built in two Dublin locations.

The first of the schools will be based in Dun Laoghaire and will be opened later this year. The second of the schools will be built in Dublin South City Centre and is slated to open some time in 2018.

A third school, to be opened in Pellestown, near Phoenix Park, will be operated by  Scoil Sinead, which is also a multi-denominational patron body.

According to the Irish Times, Minister for Education Richard Bruton said that parental demand was a decisive factor in the awarding of school patronage to multi-denominational bodies.

“Parental preference has become a key determinant in deciding the patronage of new schools,” said Mr. Bruton. “I’m pleased to say that the views of parents as expressed through the process are strongly reflected in the decisions I have made on the patronage of these four new schools.”
