Gardaí have seized firearms and improvised explosive devices during searches in Dundalk, Co Louth, and arrested a woman in her 30s.
The searches were carried out on Friday as part of an ongoing investigation into an organised crime group, The Journal reported.
Detectives leading the operation were accompanied by the Garda armed support unit and by members of the Army’s explosive ordnance disposal unit.
The firearms and explosives recovered have been sent for further technical examination, a garda spokesperson said. The Irish Mirror described the devices as viable improvised explosive devices.
It is the latest in a run of significant hauls this summer, following an organised crime gun seizure in Dublin and a series of other recent Garda seizures in the capital.
Confirming the arrest, the garda spokesperson said: “A woman, aged in her 30s, has been arrested in relation to this investigation. She is currently detained under provisions of Section 30 at a garda station in the North East of the country.”
No further detail has been released on the quantity or type of weapons recovered, and no charges have been announced.
Gardaí said the investigation into the organised crime group remains ongoing, with the examination of the seized items expected to take some time.
