Gardaí engaged in talks regarding e-bike regulations against drug distribution

What the Garda seizures uncovered

The high-impact operation was carried out under Operation Meacán in the Dublin Metropolitan Region, with gardaí conducting 63 searches so far, largely around Blanchardstown.

As well as the firearm and electric vehicles, officers seized three scramblers, a quad, €8,000 in cash and ammunition.

According to RTÉ News, the arrested man is being detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

Operation Meacán, launched in December 2023, targets the use of e-scooters and e-bikes for drug distribution, money laundering and transporting firearms.

Along with today's enforcement, gardaí also engaged with members of the public in the Dublin region on current regulations in relation to motorcycles, e-bikes, e-scooters as well as the new regulations due to come into effect this month.

New rules governing e-bikes and e-scooters are due to come into force later this month, and gardaí signalled that enforcement will continue.
