€17,500 worth of cocaine found at street party in Limerick

The fallout from the large street party in Limerick continues.

Gardaí have arrested two more men and seized €17,500 worth of cocaine in College Court, Castletroy on Tuesday night.

During ongoing operations in the College Court area, Gardaí were alerted to activities of a number of males and a vehicle in the area.

Following a search of the vehicle, involving Garda Dog ‘Bouncer’, cocaine (pending analysis) with an estimated street value of €17,500 along with €800 in cash was seized.

Two men were arrested at the scene and brought to Henry Street Garda station where they are currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

In total so far, over 50 Fixed Penalty Notices have been issued in relation to breaches of the Health Act that occurred during the incident.

Investigations are ongoing.

Minister for Further Education Simon Harris called the scenes “completely unacceptable”.

“Students like everyone have suffered a lot with Covid-19,” Harris wrote on Twitter.

“The scenes in Limerick tonight are completely unacceptable and a slap in the face to everyone sacrificing so much. It does a real disservice to all students who abide by the rules day in and out.
