A community mayor in Whitegate in Cork has suggested that job seekers could work two days of the week for their social welfare payments by completing jobs like cleaning and picking up dog poo. Mayor of Whitegate Martin Murray was speaking to Patricia Messinger on Tuesday on C103 when he suggested that some outside the box thinking was needed to deal with dog fouling in the county. The issue was raised at a recent meeting of the Cork County Council. Murray outlined how he has seen numerous people leaving their dog's waste behind without cleaning it up, even when he confronted them. The community mayor said that he feels a common sense approach is needed outside of seeking or establishing another committee to deal with the problem. He feels his idea of job seekers doing the work of a few volunteers would be a common sense approach but it will not be adopted by the political parties and that is part of the problem.
