The mother-of-five was recently given a terminal diagnosis of cancer after a misdiagnosed smear test.
Earlier this week, Emma Mhic Mhathúna's incredibly powerful and moving interview with Morning Ireland resonated with every single person that heard it.
Ms Mhic Mhathúna is a mother-of-five who has been given a terminal diagnosis of cancer and she recounted her heartbreaking story after originally being told that her smear test was clear in 2013, but it wasn't.
Three years later, her cancer was diagnosed and she was never told about her incorrect smear test.
"I don't even know if my little baby will remember me. What makes this situation so sick is that the government aren't doing anything about it. I’ve been told I’m dying… I’m dying and I don’t need to be. I’m only 37… this isn’t fair. This is what makes it so heartbreaking, I'm dying when I don't need to die," she said.
Ms Mhic Mhathúna added: "It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do because as a mother my job is to protect them… I had to collect them from school early and tell them that I’m dying. It’s a horrible thing to witness, to be honest, there’s so much pain in the house," she said.
During the most recent episode of the Late Late Show, Ryan Tubridy had the Kerry native on his programme and she elaborated on her previous interview with Morning Ireland.
Despite this heartbreaking news, its testament to the character of Ms Mhic Mhathúna that she's still making jokes about having a 'sexy gynaecologist' that she hoped was calling her for a date and why Kerry are still the best GAA county.
Aside from this, her bravery and honesty in such difficult circumstances really resonated with everyone that watched her interview.
In fact, the entire audience gave her a standing ovation.
