Storm Doris has wreaked havoc across the country this morning.

56,000 ESB customers throughout the country are without power this morning as a result of electrical faults caused by Storm Doris.

Still active across the country on Thursday morning, particularly in the north and east of the country, the storm has carried gale force winds and gusts of up to 120 km per hour, causing damage to the electricity network in the north east, the north west and in north Dublin.

ESB said that there were 56,000 customers without power as a result of 770 faults on Thursday morning and, as the storm has not reached its peak, warned that more customers could be affected.

The areas currently affected include:

  • Balbriggan
  • Lucan
  • Celbridge
  • Mulhuddart
  • Navan
  • Duleek
  • Drogheda
  • Castlebar
  • Tuam
  • Carrickmacross
  • Monaghan
  • Cavan
  • Roscommon
  • Sligo
  • Leitrim
  • Dundalk
  • Drogheda

ESB say that damage has been caused by high winds causing broken electricity lines and damage to poles and other equipment. Falling timber has also caused considerable damage to the electricity network.

ESB Networks have mobilised crews who are currently working as well as possible in very difficult conditions to restore power as quickly as possible to affected customers, once it is safe to do so. Crews based in areas of the country less impacted by the storm are en route to assist colleagues in the most affected areas.

Customers without power can check for updates on when their supply is expected to be restored at Powercheck (www.esbpowercheck.ie) and via Twitter at @ESBNetworks.

For faults that are not appearing on Powercheck, customers are asked to log a fault at ESB Networks or call 1850 372 999 or +353 21 2382410. Customers should have their MPRN available to access recorded information specific to their location.

Customers are also encouraged to listen to their local radio station for regular up-dates.

ESB issued the following important public safety message on Thursday morning:

If you come across fallen wires or damaged electricity network, never, ever touch or approach these as they are LIVE and extremely dangerous. Please report any damage to electricity infrastructure by calling 1850 372 999 or +353 21 2382410.

ESB Networks is reminding customers of the precautionary measures to take in the event of a power cut:

Never approach broken lines or damaged poles, and keep children and animals away – report damage to ESB Networks on 1850 372 999 or +353 21 2382410 and listen to recorded messages carefully.

Turn off electric cookers, ovens, irons, etc.

If electricity supply is lost leave one light switched on so you know when power has been restored

Take extra care if using candles, oil lamps or other naked flames test smoke alarms with fresh batteries ensure adequate ventilation if using gas heaters.

Real time information on power outages and restoration times will be available at: Powercheck (available on Android and IOS)

Further information will be available at www.esbnetworks.ie.

ESB Networks apologises for any inconvenience caused.
