Motorcycle van crash Limerick man dies

The incident took place in the early hours of Friday morning.

Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision that took place in Limerick in the early hours of Friday morning, 11 February.

Shortly before 2am on Friday, Gardaí and emergency services were alerted following a collision between a car and a lorry on the N21 at Rineroe near Adare.

The driver of the car, understood to be a 12-year-old boy, was fatally injured as a result of the incident.

He was the sole occupant of the car.

His body has been removed to the morgue at University Hospital Limerick and the coroner has been notified.

The driver of the lorry, a man aged in his 40s, did not require hospital treatment.

At the time of writing on Friday morning, the scene has been preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Diversions have been put in place on the N21, diverting city-bound traffic from Adare via Croom.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, who were travelling on the N21 near the Adare area in the early hours of Friday morning are asked to make this footage available.
