‘Where we’re going we won’t need roads’
You might think time travel is a concept straight out of a science fiction film, but passengers on a flight managed to travel back in time last night after taking off in 2025 and landing in 2024.
Passengers on the flight actually had the chance to ring in the new year twice as they flew from Hong Kong in 2025 and landed in Los Angeles in 2024.
This is due to something called the International Date Line (IDL).
The IDL is a – not literal – line down the middle of the Pacific Ocean that represents the point at which two dates are separated.
Those who fly to the East will lose a day, and those who head West will gain a day.
And those on last night’s (or is it last year’s?) flight even got a good few extra hours of 2024, as they landed at 8pm.
I’m sure many people this morning will wish they could go back to 8pm last night and make some more sensible decisions.
