Galway City Council street cleaners claim Lotto jackpot worth over €5.5 million

“Someone said that we cleaned up and we did.”

A group of Galway City Council street cleaners has collected a Lotto jackpot prize worth €5,541,001.

The ten-man syndicate was formed almost 25 years ago, with the winning numbers chosen for the draw on Wednesday, 3 August individual to all the members.

“The lads thought about changing the numbers at one stage, but decided against making any changes,” one of the syndicate members said.

“Just last Christmas, one member mentioned that he was going to leave the syndicate, but he was persuaded to stay on and was told it was only the price of a pint and a newspaper.

“Luckily, he stayed as the syndicate winning numbers appeared on the 3 August lottery draw.”

The syndicate took home Ireland’s seventh Lotto Jackpot this year, with the winning ticket sold in Newspoint newsagent at the Galway Shopping Centre on the Headford Road.

“Someone said that we cleaned up and we did, but us lads clean up every day by ensuring the streets and parks in Galway city are spotless,” another of the syndicate members added.

“We’re proud of our city. Unlike the magnificent seven, this magnificent ten can now all ride off into the sunset with their lottery win secured.”

As there was no winner of the Lotto jackpot on Saturday, 13 August, Wednesday night’s Lotto jackpot rolls towards an estimated €3 million.
