Gardaí appeal for witnesses following shooting incident in Longford this week

The appeal follows an incident in which a dog was reportedly shot and killed on Monday evening.

Gardaí at Granard in County Longford are appealing for witnesses in relation to a firearm incident where an official Garda firearm was discharged in the area on Monday 3 December.

It was reported that a dog was shot and killed in Granard on Monday evening and that a Gardaí firearm was discharged during the incident.

In their official statement, the Garda Press Office said:

“As part of an on-going investigation by Gardaí from Longford, they attended an incident in Granard on Monday 3 December 2018.

“During the course of this incident an official Garda firearm was discharged.

“As this incident has been referred to the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission, An Garda Síochána are not in a position to comment further.”

On Thursday evening, the Gardaí issued an appeal for any witnesses who may be able to provide relevant information.

Gardaí wish to speak to any persons who were in the area of Ferriskill or perhaps were a road user at the time of the incident to contact them at Granard Garda station on 043 668 7660, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
