Gardaí appeal for witnesses after two fires started at houses in Longford overnight

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses in relation to two house fires in the Edgeworthstown area of Longford, which occurred on Thursday night and Friday morning.

At this stage of the investigation, Gardaí do not believe the two fires are linked.

Between 9pm and 10pm on Thursday night, a house fire occurred at a vacant property in Coolarty, Edgeworthstown.

Fire Brigade Units from Granard attended the blaze and brought it under control, but the house was extensively damaged.

An investigation into the fire is underway and Gardaí are appealing for assistance from members of the public in Ballinalee, Granard and Edgeworthstown in establishing if anyone witnessed suspicious vehicles or persons in the area.

A second house fire also occurred in the Corboy area of Edgeworthstown at 3am on Friday morning.

The house was not occupied at the time but it was extensively damaged.

Gardaí are seeking assistance from the public to establish if anyone witnessed suspicious vehicles, persons or activity on the Main N4 at Corboy between Edgeworthstown and Longford.
