Four Gardaí hospitalised after being bitten and threatened in incident in Waterford

A man has been arrested following an incident which saw Gardaí bitten, kicked and threatened in Waterford.

Four Gardaí (three male and one female) responded to an incident on Bridge Street near Waterford city centre at approximately 6.30am on Tuesday morning.

The officers at the scene tried to arrest a male, but the four were kicked, bitten on the arms and had threats made to their lives, according to local reports.

The Gardaí attended University Hospital Waterford for treatment and have since been released.

A 33-year-old man has since been arrested in relation to the incident.

A statement issued to JOE by An Garda Síochána read: “Gardaí in Waterford responded to a disturbance at approximately 6.30am on Tuesday 8 October on Bridge Street. Following an altercation, a man (aged 33) was arrested by Gardaí and conveyed to Waterford Garda station.”
