Gardaí have confirmed the suspect in the murder of Jamey Carney in Co. Kerry has left the country.

Ms Carney, 43, an American woman with a teenage daughter, was found dead at a property in the town on Tuesday. She had been living in Ireland for around five years and was well known in the locality.

The man gardaí are searching for is in his late 20s or early 30s. JOE understands the man is originally from the Middle East and had been dating Ms Carney for a period of time.

A manhunt was started however Gardaí have now confirmed that their main suspect has left the jurisdiction.

"An Garda Síochána is satisfied that a person of interest in this investigation left the jurisdiction in the early hours of Tuesday, 7th July, prior to the body of the deceased female being discovered and reported to An Garda Síochána," a statement said.

"As part of this ongoing investigation, An Garda Síochána is engaging with international law enforcement partners.

"This murder investigation is being carried out by the Serious Crime Unit, Kerry Division, led by a Senior Investigating Officer based at an incident room established at Killarney Garda station."
