An Garda Síochána have taken to Twitter to warn about drones.

Gardaí have noted that drones being flown in the Bray Head area have made it difficult for emergency services helicopters to assist in fighting a gorse fire.

The statement read “We are asking that anyone in the Bray Head area who is using a drone to please stop doing so. There is a gorse fire in the area and emergency helicopters cannot safely assist in until all drones are out of the air space.”

A Twitter account representing the Helicopter Wing of the Irish Air Corps also asked for drone-users to refrain from using drones in the area: “We have just left the scene of a fire at Bray Head due to a drone operating in the area. We can not share airspace with drones.”

Ireland has seen a major increase in gorse fires over the course of the last few weeks, as temperatures have been unusually high and rainfall has been low.

The fire has caused Iarnród Éireann to suspend services between Bray and Greystones due to damage to the track. The line will remain closed until the end of the day.
