Two men have been arrested after an attempted ATM robbery in Cavan overnight.
Uniformed and plain clothes Gardaí intervened during an attempted robbery at a hotel in Virginia, Cavan in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
It is understood that the attempted robbery occurred between 2am and 3am.
Two men have been arrested in connection with the investigation and are currently being held under the provisions of Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.
Gardaí said their investigations into the attempted theft are ongoing.
The main street in Virginia remains closed as investigations continue.
Last month, the PSNI issued a further warning regarding ATM thefts, which warned people to report any suspicious behaviour. They also reiterated the fact that ATM theft is not a victimless crime, with the aftermath affecting businesses and personnel in the area who depend on ATMs for access to cash.
