A man was shot dead this afternoon.

An Garda Síochána has confirmed that a man in his early 40s was pronounced dead at the scene following a fatal shooting incident that occurred in the front garden of a house in the Killnamore Avenue area of Coolock on 28 May at approximately 3:30pm.

The body remains at the scene pending examination by the Garda Technical Bureau. The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified and it is expected that a post mortem will take place tomorrow.

The man has not been publicly named.

Gardaí have reported that three men wearing balaclavas were involved in this incident and left the scene in a silver Toyota Avensis, with a registration plate reading 04-D-71806.

The vehicle was later found abandoned and on fire in the Castletymon Gardens area of Coolock at approximately 3:45pm. The scene remains preserved for a Garda technical examination.

An Garda Síochána is now looking for witnesses to come forward.

Gardaí are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who was in the vicinity of the Kilbarron Avenue or Castletymon Gardens areas of Coolock between 3:15pm and 4pm on 28/05/19, especially road users who may have dash cam footage.

This afternoon’s fatal shooting was the third incident of its kind in the space of a week.
