Gardaí warn against quad bikes as a Christmas presents for children

Motorised vehicles should not be on any kid’s wishlist this Christmas.

That’s the message from Santa Claus to the Gardaí this Friday evening, it would seem.

Written in the style of a letter from Santa Claus to Garda Commissioner Drew Harris, the Gardaí have published a message warning against the use of quad bikes, or buying them as gifts for children.

“Santa” warns that he has “seen how many young people are injured each year in quad bike accidents.”

The message further says: “Quad bikes are not suitable gifts for children unless they are used with safety equipment and in a safe place (not a public road). They cannot be used in public parks unless there is a designated area.”

The warning follows a tragic incident in June when a scrambler bike landed on a man’s head as he sunbathed with his wife in North Dublin. The man was left with severe, life-changing injuries.
