Gatwick Airport drones couple arrested

They have released an emotional statement to the public.

The couple who were arrested as part of the investigation into last week’s drone drama at Gatwick Aiport have released an emotional statement noting that they feel “completely violated” following their experience.

Paul Gait and Elaine Kirk were released without charge after Sussex police felt satisfied that they were no longer suspects in the disruption that saw the airport shut down over three days.

Before their release, several major tabloid newspapers ran front page stories with their names and images on display, connecting them to the events at Gatwick.

Speaking to Sky News outside their home in Sussex, the pair released a statement in which they confirmed that they have been receiving medical treatment since the incident.

“As you can probably imagine, we are feeling completely violated,” began Gait.

“Our home has been searched and our privacy and identity completely exposed. Our names, photos and other personal information has been broadcast throughout the world.

“We are deeply distressed, as are our family and friends and we are currently receiving medical care. The way we were initially perceived was disgusting, although those that knew us didn’t doubt us for a second.”

Approximately 1,000 flights were cancelled or diverted after drones were spotted inside the perimeter of the airport on Wednesday evening, with around 140,000 passengers affected over the coming days.

Confusion reigns in the aftermath, with Sussex police declaring the possibility of there actually being no drone involved at all.
