Newstalk release official statement regarding George Hook’s future within the station

A decision has been made.

Newstalk have confirmed that George Hook will no longer present High Noon, his lunchtime show on the radio station.

However, he has been handed a new weekend slot.

On September 8, George Hook spoke on his show about a rape case taking place in England, and his comments on the matter caused an uproar from listeners and non-listeners alike, based on the his question of “But is there no blame now to the person who puts themselves in danger?”

Both Newstalk and George Hook released official statements in the following days, and soon afterwards Newstalk had announced that they had put Hook on an indefinite suspension until they looked further into the situation.

Today, Newstalk have made a decision as to his future within the station.

As per their official statementNewstalk has now concluded the process which reviewed the circumstances that led to George Hook’s comments on rape recently.

The station confirms that George Hook will be stepping down from his lunchtime slot.

He will return to the station in December 2017 when he will take on a new weekend show. Newstalk will shortly be announcing a replacement for the lunchtime show.

The radio station has said that they will not be answering any further questions on the situation at this time.
