The actress and writer received words of support from the likes of Dara Ó Briain, Jason Manford and Panti Bliss.

An actress and writer who went viral after performing a one woman play at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to a single audience member now appears to be selling out shows.

Georgie Grier has brought her play Sunsets to the world’s largest performance arts festival but was disheartened when only one audience member turned up.

Posting a photo of herself crying to Twitter on Thursday (3 August), Grier wrote: “There was one person in my audience today when I performed my one woman play, ‘Sunsets’ at #edfringe. It’s fine, isn’t it? It’s fine…?”

The tweet provoked an outpouring of support from various performers including Dara Ó Briain, Jason Manford, Jemaine Clement, London Hughes, Panti Bliss, Rufus Jones, Sarah Millican and Shaparak Khorsandi – some of whom recounted their own horror stories of playing to small crowds.

And now The Daily Mail is reporting that after going viral, Grier went on stage to a near sell-out crowd at the Edinburgh Fringe on Friday afternoon.

According to the paper, around 32 of the 40 available seats were sold, with the actress jokingly telling the crowd: “Hello Wembley!” before beginning her performance.

Also, as of Friday afternoon, the website selling tickets for Sunsets says that Grier’s Saturday show has sold out and that there is already “low availability” for Sunday’s.

Costing £11-12 and running until 27 August, you can buy tickets for Sunsets right here.
