Inevitably, the recent good weather is about to take a turn for the worse

Well, it was nice while it lasted.

After basking in a few days of glorious and long overdue sunshine last week, Ireland is set to be hit with conditions that all too sadly resemble the norm in the coming days.

‘Showers’ is the word that stands out a mile in Met Éireann’s national forecast for this week and we can expect plenty of them pretty much every day from Monday right through until the end of this coming weekend.

Unsettled with blustery showers is the outlook for the week, with the worst of the weather set to arrive on Monday and Tuesday, when rain will become persistent in places amidst fresh and gusty southwest winds that will be strongest in coastal counties.

There will be occasional dry and sunny spells to go along with the showers, which will begin to ease towards the weekend, but after reaching highs of 15 degrees on Monday, temperatures will top out at around 11 or 12 degrees on Thursday and Friday.

It’s a far cry from last week, where temperatures reached the 20 mark for the first time in 2018.

At night, meanwhile, it will get even cooler, with the mercury dropping close to zero from Wednesday onwards, with touches of grass frost likely as a result.

Now, we just have to wait for Ireland’s annual three-day summer, which we’re sure will come along at some stage in the next few months.
