The Taoiseach has responded.
There has been a swell of outrage across Ireland after it was revealed that the government spent €336,000 on a sheltered bike shed outside Leinster House.
The shelter, which houses a total of 18 bikes, was initially hailed by Green Party minister Eamon Ryan as a good example of a change being made as part of the climate action mandate.
However, when he was asked about the costs on Monday, Mr Ryan said it seemed “incredibly expensive”.
Mr Ryan added that the Government has to show that “we spend public money wisely and that sort of cost seems to be very, very high”.
Taoiseach Simon Harris said the that people do not get the “extraordinary sum of money” the bike shelter at Leinster House has cost, and he does not either.
He labelled the cost as “inexcusable and inexplicable”.
“This is the sort of thing that rightly angers and annoys people and it angers and annoys me as well.”

Government respond to outrage over €336,000 bike shed outside Leinster House
Many expressed their outrage over the ludricrous pricing of the bike rack on social media, with many comparing it to the cost of the unfinished children’s hospital.
Irish actor Liam Cunningham said: “€18,611 to keep the rain off each bike in the new bike shed at the Dáil. Total cost over €335,000. 18 bicycles. We are led by donkeys.”
Kieran Cuddihy, presenter of Newstalk’s The Hard Shoulder mentioned that the bike shed price was comparable to the price to build a three-bedroom house in Dublin.
“When are they going to stop treating us with such utter disdain?” he added.
