Hail, sleet and possibly snow on the horizon as Ireland braces itself for cold snap

Homenews

In the last week of April…

Temperatures are set to be “several degrees below normal” this week as a blast of Arctic air is set to make its presence felt in Ireland and the UK. Sleet and snow has been forecast to arrive in the UK and there is a chance of it hitting mountain tops in Ireland towards the end of what is set to be a week of unseasonably cold weather. Today and tonight will remain mostly dry with outbreaks of scattered showers, but after a decent start to Tuesday morning, the weather is set to take a turn with rain and hail showers widespread throughout Wednesday and a chance of isolated thunderstorms too. Heavy rain and hail showers will again affect most of the country by Friday morning, while snow in elevated areas and mountain tops is also a possibility. The Bank Holiday weekend isn’t supposed to be much better, so we wouldn’t be getting too enthusiastic about any outdoor activities you might have planned.
