Health service to get a massive €500 million more funding this year

Alan Loughnane

Hopefully this will make a difference.

The HSE is to have an extra €500 million budget allocation for the year.

The Government approved a revised estimate for 2016 mainly to deal with the expected HSE overrun according to RTE.

As well as the overrun, it will be used to try and deal with overcrowding, fund care homes and a new winter initiative.

The €12 million which was to be diverted from the mental health fund will be restored following a public outcry and calls from Minister with responsibility for Mental Health, Helen McEntee.

The Department of Justice will also receive €40 million in funding from the revised budget and it’s likely that this will be ear marked for Garda overtime.

The move comes following increasing pressure on the Gardaí, Tánaiste and Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald and Garda Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan to deal with escalating gangland crisis on Dublin’s streets.
