Heartbreaking tributes paid to 24-year-old woman killed in Wexford crash

Heartbreaking tributes have poured in following the death of a 24-year-old woman who was killed in a road crash in Wexford.

Kate Wibbe, a University College Cork graduate, was killed in a three-vehicle collision involving a truck, a van and a car, that occurred on the N25 at Barntown on Tuesday, August 13 at 6.30am.

Gardaí confirmed that Ms Wibbe was pronounced deceased at the scene, while a male in his 40’s who was driving the van was brought to Wexford General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Bishopstown GAA Club paid tribute to their player Ms Wibbe following the news.

They posted on social media: “It is with deep sadness that we have learned that Kate Wibbe has tragically lost her life in a road traffic accident.

“Kate joined our LGFA Junior team this year, integrating seamlessly and represented us with pride. Our hearts go out to Kate’s family, may Kate rest in peace.”

Her former club, St. Brigid’s LGFC, also paid tribute to Ms Wibbe.

“St. Brigid’s LGFC were truly saddened to hear of the sad passing of one of our former teammates Kate Wibbe,” a statement reads on social media.

“Kate played with our club during her younger years being a key player in all our games.

“Kate always had a beautiful smile and quiet manner off the pitch but her determination and strong character were forever present on the field.”

Fiona, Christian and Daniel were always on hand to lend support to the girls from the side lines.

Kate’s infectious character brightened all our days. Forever in our hearts. RIP Kate.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses for the collision that occurred on Tuesday to come forward.

“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time of the incident, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí,” a statement to JOE reads.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Wexford Garda Station on 053 916 5200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
