Conor Heneghan

Looking for an excuse to get out of the city this weekend?

If you are and if you don’t mind strangers taking over your gaff while you’re away, then making your home available to rent on Airbnb could be a very lucrative option indeed.

What’s the worst that could happen?

The popularity of Airbnb has increased massively in recent years, so much so, in fact, that demand for accommodation for Dublin is likely to be up 59% on the August Bank Holiday weekend last year.

It has been predicted that the typical Airbnb host in Dublin could make up to €548 over the August Bank Holiday weekend, an increase of 25% on last year, when the average income for a host was €438.

Since 2009, 400,000 guests have availed of Airbnb accommodation in Ireland, while there are 3,000 Airbnb hosts in Dublin alone.

If you’re already heading away for the Bank Holiday weekend or if the numbers quoted above have persuaded you to do so at the last-minute, you can find out all you need to know about being an Airbnb host here.
