Counting of the votes concluded on Saturday and all 108 seats have been filled.

The Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) remain the best-represented party in the fifth Northern Ireland Assembly after claiming 38 of the 108 available seats following Friday’s election, with party leader Arlene Foster set to continue as First Minister in Stormont. https://twitter.com/niassembly/status/728975245059739650 After the counting of the votes concluded on Saturday, Sinn Féin were the next best represented party with 28 seats, followed by the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) with 16, the Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) with 12 and the Alliance Party of Northern Ireland (APNI) with eight seats. The remaining seats were filled by The Green Party (2), People Before Profit (2), Traditional Unionist Voice (1) and Independent (1). Amongst the MLAs in the new Northern Ireland Assembly will be Eamonn McCann of the People Before Profit party. The 73-year old civil rights activist first ran for election in 1969 and after numerous attempts since, he has finally secured his seat, 47 years later. mccann
