This is just terrible…

Thirteen malnourished children and siblings ranging from the age of two up to 29 have been rescued from a house in California, where some of them were shackled to beds with chains and padlocks.

The discovery was made after a 17-year-old managed to get free from the residence in Perris, California, and call 911 from a phone she found in the house. When police arrived, they initially thought that she was just 10-years-old.

The 17-year-old “appeared to be only 10 years old and slightly emaciated,” the Riverside Sheriff’s Department said.

“Deputies located what they believed to be 12 children inside the house but were shocked to discover that seven of them were actually adults,” the statement read. “The victims appeared to be malnourished and very dirty.”

Two parents, David Allen Turpin, 57, and Louise Anna Turpin, 49, were arrested and charged with torture and child endangerment. Bail was set at $9 million each according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Six of the victims discovered were minors, while the other seven people discovered were over 18. All the victims are now being treated in local hospitals.
