Hmmmm…
A hunter who has killed at least 5000 elephants and 60 lions says he has no regrets about killing animals.
In a new report, Britain was named among the “deadly dozen” nations of trophy hunters.
The report also identified a Zimbabwean named Ron Thomson as being personally responsible for killing approximately 5,000 elephants.
As well as killing 5,000 elephants, Thomson lists on his website that he’s also killed 800 buffalo, 50/60 lions, 30/40 leopards and about 50 hippos.
However, Thomson said his reason for hunting has nothing to do with bloodlust but rather for conservation, stating that if key species were not reduced, their growing numbers would destroy their own habitats
“I didn’t have any sentiment. I’m totally unrepentant, a hundred – ten thousand – times over for any of the hunting I’ve done because that’s not the problem,” Thomson told The Independent.
“The problem is we’ve got a bunch of so-called experts from the West telling us what to do. I’m a trained university ecologist – I must surely know something about this.”
He stated that reports the African elephant is near extinct is down to “animal right-ist” NGOs who are looking for funding and that the species is not in danger.
Previously speaking to The Guardian, Thomson said he enjoyed hunting.
“It was a great thrill to me, to be very honest,” he said.
“Some people enjoy hunting just as much as other people abhor it. I happened to enjoy it.”
Eduardo Gonçalves, founder of the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting, said: “The trophy hunting industry is slaughtering elephants left, right and centre. Killing elephants for ‘fun’ is unacceptable, even more so because of the serious threat to its survival.
“Trophy hunting is a cruel and abhorrent hangover from colonial times. The recent surge in elephant hunting shows the industry is out of control. It threatens to push endangered species to the point of no return.”
